Anglo-Eastern is launching "Mission 30" — an initiative to increase the percentage of management level officers (Master, Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, and Second Engineer) under 30 years old years old from 1% to 30% by 2030.

"We've observed significant changes in our seagoing workforce composition: while the majority of our senior officers and second engineers used to be under 30, today only about 1% of our leadership-level officers are in this age group," said Vinay Singh, Managing Director of Human Resources at Anglo-Eastern, adding that this trend presents a challenge as we prepare for a future that demands adaptability, digital skills, and flexibility to implement innovations such as dual-fuel systems, artificial intelligence integration, and smart ship technologies.

According to the company, "Mission 30" includes the following tools and measures to accelerate professional development for Anglo-Eastern seafarers:

  • Individual Career Development Map: Each employee receives a personalized and visual roadmap that demonstrates the gap between their current position and ideal career trajectory.

  • Targeted Training and Assessment: Specialized programs exist to prepare officers for timely promotion.

  • Mentoring through the "Personnel Support Team" Program: Seafarers receive assistance with Certificate of Competency (COC) exam preparation, vessel type transitions, and long-term career planning. Newly appointed officers will be paired with respected colleagues, as mentor-mentee pairs.

According to the Group Managing Director of Marine Personnel at Anglo-Eastern, the program's goal is to create structured, transparent pathways to maritime leadership so that seafarers can advance faster, assume senior positions earlier, and become the next generation of maritime professionals.
